According to a recent Talkwalker study, social media trends are veering in a new direction. We're still in a challenging time, and 78% of consumers want brands to help them with their day-to-day lives. Marketing using nostalgia, conversation, memes, and socially conscious language will take the lead.
Looking ahead to 2021, marketers will want to watch these nine social media sites to keep their audiences engaged.
#1 - TikTok
TikTok is not going anywhere anytime soon, especially since Vine went dark. TikTok’s best-selling feature is its entertaining and to-the-point videos.
TikTok is a fast-paced app. The second you log in, you see a video at the top of a feed that's algorithmically curated around your interests. If you enjoy the video you're watching, you can follow, comment, and like the content directly from the video post. If you're not loving what you see, you can keep swiping in an upward motion to immediately see more videos.

TikTok is dominated by Gen-Z in the United States, but many millennials have adopted it around the world. Even though the platform is very popular in the United States, its biggest audience comes from China. As of April 2021, almost half of all adults in the United States between the ages of 19 and 29, have used TikTok. Both males and females use the platform, with only a one percent skew for males. It is available in over 200 countries. Over 22.2 million of TikTok's monthly active users are in Indonesia. The average user spends 89 minutes per day on the app, according to NME News.
There is so much opportunity on TikTok for advertisers. It offers five advertising tiers aimed at big brands. One of which, a branded hashtag challenge, reportedly costs $150,000 per day. (TikTok Pitch Deck Notes First Reported by Digiday)
Within TikTok's first year, it reportedly reached 500 million monthly active users. According to TikTok and its company heads, the audience might be larger and more promising than we think. In Fact, In September 2021, TikTok celebrated reaching 1 billion monthly active users. (TikTok)

"Building on the existing ways that people can create and share content on TikTok, the expansion of the feature to include web-, desktop- and console-based developers will further advance the creative process and give people multiple avenues to create new original, high-quality content. - TikTok Blog
Three days ago, TikTok announced the expansion of its Video Kit integrations, which will see more third-party platforms able to offer TikTok content creation options.
Via its ‘Share to TikTok’ video API, approved third-party platforms can integrate TikTok video creation directly into their tools, providing expanded creative capacity through additional templates and enhancements. You can reap the benefits of these improvements with polished videos and more chances for reach.

Let your Audience Light the Way
We are not in control of how our audience chooses to spend their digital time. They choose the path, and we just follow. If we want to speak to our audience, we need to find them first and speak their language.
