If you don't want to go to college but still want to pursue your dream of becoming a social media marketer, there are other learning resources that can equip you with marketing knowledge, such as marketing blogs! The SMMU marketing blog is full of useful information and tips to help you start your social media marketing career. It can be useful to find a social media marketing blog written by a college student who is also trying to start their marketing career.
Social Media Marketing Certification Courses
Certification courses that can help you launch your social media marketing career include the Hubspot Certification Course, Acadium Social Media Marketing Course, and Digital Marketing 101. Hubspot has a dedicated certification course for social media marketers. In this course there are many lectures and sections that talk about the many different pieces of social media marketing. Having a little extra experience, even if it's just something small, will boost your resume when you want to start your career. Completing the certification courses will give you some experience to start with. You can also gain experience by finding social media jobs that don't require experience to help you land your dream job.
Another way to gain experience in social media marketing is to run your own social media platform or create your own website. By starting with running your own platforms, you will be able to understand what goes on with social media marketing along with what works and what doesn't work, as well as have something impressive to put on your resume.
Having experience with social media whether -- it is creating content or just keeping up with the latest trends -- is good when wanting to start a social media marketing career. When wanting to start a career in social media marketing you are sometimes able to combine your knowledge and experiences into one step to speed the process up. Interacting with business social media pages will help them notice and recognize your name when you're applying with them, as well as help you get a good idea of how they run their social media pages and what you will need to do as a social media marketer. By exploring different business social media pages and engaging with theirs, they will be able to recognize your name and you can get an idea of whether or not you want to pursue a social media marketing career with that organization.
Completing an internship will help you gain experience and make people more familiar with who you are and the skills you possess. An internship can help you get your name out there as well as get a job after your internship ends. Internships also help you get a real sense of what social media marketers do on a day-to-day basis.
The Everyday Life of a Social Media Marketer
Starting your career in social media marketing, you will want to know what their daily lives look like! Although there are a lot of positions in social media marketing, let's take a look at what at everyday duties of a social media marketer consist of. There are a lot of parts and daily tasks involved with being a social media marketer. You will deal with content, data, and advertisements almost daily.
To get started, they are posting and creating content on social media, as well as promoting the companies' products. Social media platforms that most businesses find to be a big hit are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, and Pinterest, with Facebook being the largest social media platform. Social media marketers work with social media a lot because they create new content as well as manage their platforms and posts. While creating content there is a lot more than simply posting words on a page. You need to create content that is interesting and content that will stick out. You will also need to create other content than just words, you can create infographics, videos, and podcasts. Switching up the type of content you post will help attract new viewers, and your old viewers won't get bored of your content. In a day, social media marketers have to look at the different kinds of content that they are posting and create new ideas for the future.
Social media marketers will look at the type of content that is doing the best and go from there. They see which platforms and posts are not doing well and which are. They can revamp some posts by reposting them but tweaking them a little to help them improve. While looking at the data of the platform some things they look at are reach and number of views on the page during a certain time frame.
Part of being a social media marketer involves realizing that no day will ever be the same and that you will deal with different tasks each day. They are likely optimizing social networks that already exist instead of looking to join new ones. It is important to optimize social networks and focus on the ones doing well because social media is a large part of the future and most likely will never end.
Another task that a social media marketer does in a day is run paid advertisements. Along with running paid advertisements, they work with a budget and decide what advertisement they think will earn the most revenue in the end along with attracting the most viewers.
