Social media is something that takes up a lot of our free time for many of us. We get caught scrolling away and often spend more time doing so than we anticipate. if something is such a big part of our free time, wouldn't we want these platforms to continue adding new features?

That's what these companies continue to do as they look to keep us on their platforms for as much time as possible. The new features these apps utilize add excitement and will make it, so more viewers continue to scroll their apps on a daily basis.

YouTube

A big part of social media today is the quick funny clips that we see on platforms such as TikTok. YouTube wanted to make sure it capitalized on this trend which is why they've made big changes to its platform recently.

A big change they made specifically is a new process they've tested that reformats the landscape video advertisements into vertical or square videos relative to how the users are viewing the content. Anything that helps the viewers consume content more conveniently is a major help to keep them scrolling the platform.

Twitter

Twitter is another platform that has added new features to its service. One of their big changes has to do with how they organize threads on the timeline. They introduced ThreadStart, which includes a lot of thread creation tools for the users to utilize.

This allows you to compose your tweets and have them put into a thread all in one instead of having to type up a bunch of individual tweets one at a time.

Snapchat

Snapchat is another service that has added some new features to its platform. Chat shortcuts are one big change they made that has allowed the users to view their messages in a more organized way.

They also added the question stickers as an option to use for stories which is something we've seen on other platforms before, such as Instagram.

The audience for these platforms continues to get older, so finding ways to keep them interested while still bringing in younger users is crucial for these platforms to succeed.
