Social Media was initially created as an entertainment tool to bring others together from all over the world, but this was not the case for Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook. Zuckerberg planned to create a social media website to help connect Harvard students for educational purposes. It has become a success for Zuckerberg, that today, “Facebook is one of the most valuable companies in the world, with over 2 billion monthly active users”. Zuckerberg could have never imagined that one day people across the world would begin to use Facebook as their go-to social media.
It has not only helped bring people together globally, but it lends a hand to anyone to promote their brand or company. There are new posts every minute but how exactly can we draw attention to our Facebook followers? These are some ways to make your post read worthy.
Using the Right Images
Ever heard of the expression, “A picture is worth a thousand words”? This term can be used when creating content for a Facebook post. At times it is better to show someone an image rather than writing out the thousand words of context to explain it. The use of an image engages users by adding values and emotion to your post. Using an image allows an author to get a point across and communicate with your users. It is important not to get too comfortable and choose a random picture, but rather find a high-quality image that relates to your brand or point you're trying to get across.
"Including a Facebook-friendly image on your web page could make people more likely to share it on social media, and increase the number of clicks that post gets once it is shared". - Bob Bertsch
Use Shorter URL Links
The use of short links make your post appear more polished and will prevent filling half your post with a link. A great website to use make links shorter is Bitly.com. This website allows you to put in the full website URL link and make it into a custom short link to use, for free.
According to Rebrandly, “Originally Twitter – who used to limit messages to 140 characters – counted all characters in a link."
Proper Usage of Call-to-Actions
It is a great idea to have a call to action in a post, because this creates engagement and encourages the audience to interact with the post. The most important thing to consider when using a call to action is how much is too much? As a marketer it is a great idea to think about it as if you were the one who is scrolling through your Facebook after a long day at work and what encourages you to actually take a look at the post. When it comes to a Facebook Post, it should include at least one call-to-action. Having too many can overwhelm the reader and make the user decide to ignore them all.
For example: Share, follow, comment, and follow this link for more information all in one post can scare some users away.
Too Much Text
It is good to let your audience know everything about your brand and what your post is about. However, you do not want the audience to have to read a five-page essay to get to a point. Try to make the post short and concise to get your point across in the simplest way possible to understand. Consider that the person reading your post is waiting for the bus and would like to finish reading by the time they reach their destination.
In an effective way to make your posts readable is by using the right image, do not use long URL links, make your call-to-action just one step for your user to do, and do not write a long description to your post. Keeping these easy tips to follow will make sure to keep your Facebook audience engaged to your posts.
