Career Options Within Social Media Marketing
We are now going to focus on three jobs within the social media marketing field that each have its own advantages and have the opportunity to appeal to different people. It may take time to discover what it is you enjoy and what fits you best, but lucky for you there are infinite options with absolutely something for everyone.
1. Social Media Consulting
If you feel you’ve become a bit of a social media marketing expert, this could be the perfect role for you. According to Sprout Social, during this role, you’ll manage multiple client relationships with advising brands on how to develop their social strategies. This can be perfect for those that enjoy helping others solve hard problems while bringing thoughtful solutions to the table. In addition to that, you’re also able to flex to different industries and support others in achieving their long-term social goals.
2. Data Analysis or Market Research
For those working in this role, they do a great job leveraging information to identify trends, make predictions, and better connect with audiences. They apply skills learned in a variety of different roles and have a strong grasp on both qualitative and quantitative data with the ability to communicate their findings to key stakeholders in an easy, comprehendible manner. This role is especially great for those that just can’t get enough of data and all decisions they make are backed by numbers. These individuals are able to spot and measure trends within the social media landscape and enjoy analyzing data to make more educated business decisions.
3. Creative Design
A career in the creative design department combines social know-how with artistic passion. This role involves more than just taking photos and making pretty graphics. When assigned this position, you’ll help develop the brand’s visual language, tone, and creative elements to make sure everything is aligned with the brand’s key messaging. It makes perfect sense that those who would fit well into this role are those with excellent communication skills, who work with teams across marketing, and who also have a passion for creativity paired with social marketing.
With a brief deep dive into these three positions, you can see just how broad the world of social media marketing is. Don’t love your position right now? No worries at all. Figure out what fits your personality and skill-set best and go for it.

With social media marketing, you really just have to jump in. You might make some mistakes but you’ll learn along the way and grow as a marketer. Five tips on how to start social media marketing are:
1. Go Where Your Customers Are
Don’t try to be fancy or make things harder than they need to be. Your customers are out there and it’s just a matter of creating a strategy that will reach them and result in success for your brand.
2. Set Realistic and Measurable Goals
Setting SMART goals that align with your brand goals will be a large focus when moving forward as a social media marketer. Making sure you’re on track to achieve objectives can only occur when you’ve sat down and taken the time to develop realistic and measurable goals.
3. Focus on Quality, not Quantity
You don’t necessarily have to focus on getting posts to all your platforms multiple times a day. You want to focus on getting content to your audience that resonates with them and makes them feel inclined to follow and interact with your brand in the future.
4. Maximize Your Existing Resources
If your brand has an established base across social media platforms that have seen some success, build on that. Put time and effort into your existing resources in order to create a solid foundation that your audience knows and trusts.
5. Never Stop Learning
As discussed above, it’s important to continue your learning throughout your entire career. Especially in marketing, there are new trends and the world is constantly evolving.
