Do you have a platform and need to start to grow your audience? The content you create and curate is the first step. Next, keywords and tags present on the site should be relevant and similar to others in the same industry. Lastly, internal and external links should be used. Use these tips to improve search engine optimization and grow your audience more consistently.
Step 1: Quality Content Creation/Curation
The first and most important step is the content itself. It can be created or curated but the content must be interesting, relevant, and add value to the readers. It is worth noting that curating others' content can be a majority of your posts with no downside. There can be up to an 80/20 split between curating content (80% of posts) and original content creation (20% of posts). The value added to the readers comes from the content and can be directly correlated to audience growth because readers will return to interesting and relevant sources.
To do this you must be consistent in a certain industry or niche market. This will help to keep a similar net of new potential readers sharing interests. This will not only give you the best chance at reaching more potential readers, but it will also increase the probability that each reader will return.
Step 2: Keywords & Tags
The keywords are located inside the text and the tags linked to the website, are what search engines like Google use to understand and help sort your page in a search directory. This is directly correlated with who and how many people can find your page from places like Google or Bing search engines. It can be beneficial to look at others' pages in the same industry, the best options being thought leaders who have already gained a large following. Look at their posts, content, keywords, and tags to optimize your own page. They have a following for a reason, find that reason and use it to your advantage. Most often, these thought leaders follow current market trends, use relevant keywords/tags for their respective industries or niche, and use links to expand their reach.
Step 3: Links
Links are an important step to broadening the potential audience. Links can both be internal, which would be linking to another one of your own blogs that have similar content. Links can also be external, which would include other authors' blog posts including a link back to your own articles. This interconnecting of articles and links will provide a network and can increase the average reach of consumers.
Tips & Tricks
Now that you are focused on quality content (including curation), Including relevant keywords and tags, and also providing links to further reach. While these do increase potential engagement, it is possible to overdo all of the above. The most important step will always be the content and the value added to the readers, so there is such a thing as "overdoing" search engine optimization when it starts to take away from the content itself.
