Finding a job in Social Media isn't easy, but there are skills that you have the ability to learn that will help you be successful. These skills will help you find new opportunities that will further your career.

The majority of marketing jobs are focused on social media today in some capacity, as we've all seen how big of an impact the internet has on our world today. Understanding more about the ins and outs of social media will help you succeed in the long run.

Social Media Mistakes

This blog post written by Maria Raybould on Semrush goes in-depth on five common mistakes made when planning social media content. She also describes ways to avoid and improve upon them and why they're so important.

One of the mistakes listed is forgetting to work efficiently. Staying on top of your posts and content is super crucial to building a successful page. If you're not consistent with what you're putting out, then you won't be able to reach your potential in regards to building the account.

If you're efficient with your time, it'll allow you to get more work done elsewhere and continue to build your skills and accomplish more. If you want to take the next step in your professional journey being able to get the most work done, you can is a good way to do that.

The blog post puts together some really good ideas to save time, which is something every social media company should use. That is posting to various social media all at one time. That doesn't mean every post should be broadcast onto every platform the same way every time. There are instances where your Twitter and Instagram posts should be different, and that's okay.

There are these services that allow you to upload to various social media at the same time if that's the best course of action. Putting together the best post for each platform is still very important, but this option can save you a lot of time.

Another great way to save time is by scheduling posts. It allows you to work ahead on posts for the coming days without making it, so you need to be available at the exact time to upload the post.

There still may be posts you upload as the week goes, but having set posts you know will upload around the week at the best times gives you more flexibility with your work instead of needing to be uploading a post yourself at these times every single day.

Two more of the common mistakes in the article have to do with tracking your own performance data from your posts while also tracking competitors' posts as well. Remembering to track your own numbers isn't as difficult, but finding the right data to track isn't always easy.

There are a variety of websites you can use to track data, but one note that they mentioned as important was to see how many social engagements you have, and when there's a spike, you'll want to know what caused that to happen.

When you're checking your own data, you will also want to see how your competitors are doing as well. Evaluate their posts and see why they may be having more success or vice versa if you're the more successful one. Even if you're the more successful account, there could be something they're doing right on their social media page that may allow you to have success as well. The analytics of your competitor's performance is important, but also understand what type of content they're putting out.

If you see a social media post they put out that you find interesting see how you can put out something similar. You can't just straight up copy the post, but if they have a cool idea they mention or the way they format their post is something you could do well, then go for it.

There are many different numbers regarding how well social media posts perform, but at the end of the day, the biggest thing is improvement, so continue to find ways to do that.

Finding a job in Social Media isn't always easy, and understanding all these techniques will help you stand out amongst other candidates. Having experience will be important as well, and these skills will help you secure that.

A blog post from Moz goes in-depth on social media competitor analysis. This puts together a lot of information about how you can utilize these things to help you succeed with your company or social media page.

Putting out a lot of content isn't always the best thing to do. When you're putting together a social media plan, you need to take into account what type of content you are creating. You want the content you put out to be relevant to the viewers and stuff that they'll be interested in. Don't just create content because you feel like you're supposed to.

A way that you can create relevant content is by understanding your ideal target audience better. Whether you're a company that sells something or just a social blog, understanding who you want to view your content is important.

The first step in all this is identifying your target market, but once that is done, you need to learn more about how they consume their content. The biggest factors to start with are when and where they like to find their content at.

These two factors can change in a big way based on a variety of factors, such as age and gender, so it's important to do proper research to determine which platform is the best for your posts. The time of day can change dramatically based on these factors as well, so different social media campaigns should have different post times even if it's the same company.

Skills Needed To Succeed

This post on Social Media Today by Andre Hutchinson covers a lot of important information about the workforce and the skills needed to succeed. It also includes a link to a huge report that goes in-depth into a lot of good information about skills you could try to acquire.

The post has a section where it lists ten of the most in-demand skills for people to have for a few different jobs, with marketing being one of them. Social Media is at the top of the list number one. That is no surprise, as we all know how important social media is today. No matter what type of business you run when you're putting together a marketing plan, social media will be a big part of that process.

A few other notable skills on the list include digital marketing, communication, and advertising, all of which can be related to social media. Whether you work in marketing directly or not, understanding how to utilize social media will be important for your future.

Other research in the post showed that young people are more interested in advancing their careers and moving up the ranks with their company or their career. This isn't a surprise, but one way in which people can do that is to make their work stand out. With social media being such a prominent factor in today's business world, understanding how it all works can be even that more important to the future of your professional career.

There are many different platforms that you can utilize and learn more about. One thing with social media is that trends come and go, and being able to understand why that is can be very important.

Social Media Today has a lot of posts that can help you put together the best content possible during the year 2023, but one in particular that sticks out is one by Mark Walker-Ford describing the best times to post on Social Media.

It has a fun graphic that shows the best times to post on your favorite social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Tik Tok. One thing that stands out in this graphic is that each platform's days of the week are different.

When putting together a social media plan, it's important to think about when during the day you should post, but it's also as important to understand which day of the week is the best for you to post on. For example, the best times to post on Twitter are 8:30, 9:23, and 10:00 am on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. While on Tik Tok the best times are 10:00 am, 8:00 pm, and 11:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. It also shows the best times for other platforms; they all vary. While these best times are important to understand, you can even go deeper based on your target audience. Your audience may not use all of these platforms or be as active at all of these times, so understanding all of that will allow you to put together the best social media plan.

Social media is something that evolves daily. Something that trends today might not be trending tomorrow. That's why it's essential to capitalize on something when you have the chance. The outside dynamics of social media are essential, but you also need to continue to grow your skills on a personal level to achieve the most success. Social media evolves rapidly, and you need to evolve with it, or you might be left behind.
