Imagine the feeling of going home after a busy day of work. It's the evening, you walk in the door and hop right onto the sofa. You can finally take a much-needed social media break, so you start scrolling through all your various feeds. Time to actually relax.



You see a post from that one specific company, but don't even bother reading it because you know there will be 10 more. Instantly, they are taking up your whole Instagram feed. Post, after post, after post, they continually spit out repetitive content. You've had enough, so you go to their page and press the dreadful unfollow button.


You may miss some of their content, but not the everyday flooded Instagram feed. As you continue to scroll, you see the posts from other brands that usually post on average once a day or every other day. You leave a like and comment for being appreciative of their quality content which they provide the perfect amount.

Believe it or not, the perfect amount of posting on social media can be achieved. This blog post is focused on figuring out your specific posting schedule on social media sites with algorithms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. However, Daria at HubSpot stated that sites like Twitter which are not algorithmic require an increased amount of posts to maintain relevancy.


Experiment for Success

Hubspot went through with an experiment where they test a company posting on LinkedIn 5 times per week, or once per workday. This doesn't sound like an absurd amount, right?


After doing this test, the results found that the return on investment drops substantially. This is where the effects of an algorithm come into play. Chances are, social media sites don't want their user to be saturated in the same content from the same brand. Therefore, their handy algorithm will actually hide several of those posts from the consumer to prevent annoyance and overexposure.

Discovering What Works Best For You

Figuring out the algorithm and perfect amount of posts per day and week can be tricky. You want your target market to remember who you are, but not get annoyed with you.


This is why Hootsuite provided any businesses trying to improve their social media skills a helpful template to ensure the perfect amount of posts. A bonus with this template is that it also helps you decide what is the best time to post.


Hootsuite makes it very clear that the day and time of one's social media posts can easily determine their success. Additionally, they also made it apparent that there is no "one size fits all schedule". Part of the marketing journey is figuring out which size fits you and your company best.


There should be some type of general idea though right? You might be thinking, "Instagram should just tell us how often to post." Well, they actually did! Hootsuite provided that Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri, stated, "posting two posts a week and two stories per day is a best practice for success." Now that is some rare information, straight from the source!

How to Find the Perfect Day and Time

Notice how you usually get on social media when you wake up, over your lunch break, or right before you go to bed? Instagram has a feature that allows you to pinpoint the most popular time and day of the week that your followers are online.


Social Media Examiner explains that if you have a "business" profile on Instagram, there is a whole page of analytics that tells you everything you need to know about when to post your content. This is an awesome personalized feature that can help each and every unique business with their differing target markets.


All you have to do is make sure your Instagram profile is set to "business", and enjoy the surplus of information right at your fingertips!

Exceptions for Multiple Posts In 1 Day

We all have that one famous person we look up to and occasionally check their social media pages. It would be a dream come true for them to recognize you.


According to Semrush, when it comes to responding to fans, it is acceptable to make those posts every single day. Making your fan base and target market feel a personal relationship with you can make them be a more loyal customer.
