A reoccurring scare for new social media marketers is the complications of getting started on social media marketing. Today here at the SMMU we are going to help show that social media marketing is not as scary as one may think.
When starting out marketing a service or product on social media a question that needs to be answered first is finding out what platforms the target audience spends most of their time. If your ideal consumer isn't active on a certain social media platform, it's counterproductive to spend all of your time there (unless you have a secondary goal, such as connecting with influencers).
Keep track of your outcomes so you can identify the social media sites that are most effective in assisting you in achieving your objectives, whether they be increased website traffic, increased influencer involvement, lead creation, etc. Then concentrate on the platforms that will provide you the most value for your time and money. It is not ideal to spend valuable time and money marketing a product on a platform where your audience is not active. Narrowing down the main platforms where the target audience resides will help on getting a product to the right audience.
What Social Media Platforms are Best for Your Product?
Knowing what platform to market on will be a big help to a social media marketing campaign and make the process simpler for a new and upcoming marketer. This section of the blog is a good alternative for not having the resources to get the analytics and find out what platforms the target audience resides on.
We will talk about what demographics reside on the 4 kingpins of social media Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
There are 2.89 billion users on Facebook each month, which is greater than any other social media network. Gen Xers, Baby Boomers, and members of the Millennial generation make up a sizable portion of its viewership. A staggering 91% of Baby Boomers, 88% of Millennials, and 83% of Gen Xers accessed Facebook in the past three months.
Additionally, Facebook is ranked as the most popular and favorite social networking app among Gen X and Baby Boomers. Facebook is your greatest option if you're trying to use social media marketing to reach older populations.
TikTok
The newest player in the social media marketing game is the booming social media platform TikTok.
The statistics support TikTok's reputation as the platform for Generation Z. In actuality, TikTok is used by more than half of Gen Z users. Additionally, Gen Z users cite TikTok as their preferred platform over Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube. Not only that, but TikTok is also gaining popularity among other demographics. In 2021, 36% of TikTok users were between the ages of 35 and 54, an increase of 10% from the previous year. However, only 7% of Baby Boomers visited the app in the past three months, indicating that usage among this demographic is still low. It's also important to note that TikTok has the greatest engagement rate of any social media network, with sessions lasting an average of 10.85 minutes. In conclusion, TikTok's snackable material is enticing to users of all ages.
YouTube
Almost equally, Gen Z, Millennial, and Gen X viewers find YouTube to be popular. In the past three months, 83% of Millennials, 81% of Gen Z, and 79% of Gen X have visited YouTube. YouTube is the second-most popular social media platform among Baby Boomers, just after Facebook. Another leading choice for video marketers is YouTube. According to HubSpot's Video Marketing Report, more than a quarter of video marketers want to spend on YouTube more than on any other platform in 2022. Additionally, YouTube was regarded as the second-best platform for ROI by video marketers.
One of the most widely used apps today, the Instagram app has over 78 million active monthly users, according to SimilarWeb.
Despite TikTok having the most users among Gen Z, Instagram remains their preferred social media platform, just like it is for Millennials. Instagram is continuing to attract older users. Moreover, a quarter (27%) of Baby Boomers and 55% of Gen Xers had visited Instagram in the past three months, respectively. However, Facebook or YouTube could be a better choice if you're wanting to explicitly target these consumers.
On the marketing front, Instagram is rated as the top platform for ROI, engagement, and lead generation by more than half of video marketers. Instagram is a desirable choice if you want to get more involved in video marketing.
How to Make Social Media Marketing Even Easier!
We have identified what platforms would be ideal to market to your target audience, now we will talk about how t make social media marketing even easier with automation.
Automation: The Foundation of Efficiency
The simplest approach to conceptualizing automation is to think of instances when you may delegate marketing tasks to tools. Now there has not been a tool invented yet that will write your blog posts for you, however, there are tools that will post content for you. There are plenty of apps and websites that will help you with getting content out on social media pages without the user needing to stress about posting daily content. Apps like buffer and Hubspot can help with these issues and will post your content for you!
A big must is having a content calendar. Keeping a content calendar will help marketing material go out on certain days and keep brand awareness up throughout the social media channels. The calendar will be a marketer's best friend for keeping content going out on a consistent basis and growing brand loyalty.
