Developing a social media strategy and platform is important, however, having that engagement with your targeted audience is an even more important part of doing what you do. This is essential when it comes to how you deliver your content and how many people are actually interested in your content as well.
What is Social Media Engagement, and Why Does it Matter?
When it comes to delivering content and having a successful platform I believe that how you engage with your audience is an essential part that many of us lack knowledge in. This can have anything to do with what you post, how you interact with your audience, and what you are able to deliver. According to BigCommerce social media engagement is, “Social media engagement measures the public shares, likes and comments for an online business' social media efforts”. This is how well what you are posting does or how well it is being delivered. Higher engagement results in more traffic towards your business or platform. Understanding engagement is important in the marketing world because it measures productivity.
How to Improve Engagement
Understanding engagement and how it affects your platform would be the first key component. Once you have a solid understanding of this you can start implementing certain things to improve engagement on your platform. According to the HootSuite blog there are many different things that can be done to increase engagement but they give us a set of steps they follow and I thought it was important to highlight a couple of them. The first two they list are to understand your engagement and create a strategy. These are often overlooked and are the most important in my opinion to improve engagement. Once you are able to understand what your current reach is, you will be able to make a plan based on what the current situation is. Other important ones that are highlighted are knowing your audience and making sure you are delivering sharable content. If you are posting content that your viewers enjoy they will be more likely to either like, share, or comment on your posts. One thing that is not mentioned by HootSuite but I believe is a great element for any platform is to post question and answer content every once in a while to allow people to voice their opinion. Oftentimes the audience will find it more convenient to say something in a post rather than to find that question section on a FAQ page or to email customer service or you personally whichever the case may be.
Engagement is an ongoing process and will quickly change depending on your content and targeted audience but is something that will always contribute to how well your business does and will give you an insight as to what to continue to improve in order to guarantee that you are achieving your goals.
Like always, please reach out to any of us with any questions in regards to what we do and why we do it. Thank you for following us during this journey to deliver to other students with the same questions we all once had at some point in our marketing journey.
