How To Grow On Instagram With Rachel Pedersen

Updated: May 12, 2021

We all love a good podcast. I listen to quite a few since I drive home from college, which is three hours away. I started to think, wouldn't it be good to listen to a podcast that can help you learn new information about your degree and not The Office Ladies or crime podcast. I still love those podcasts, but I found a new one on Apple podcast for social media marketers out there. Rachel Pedersen is a great gal to listen to, and her podcast is called Social Media Secrets with Rachel Pedersen. She has lots of podcasts that last from 10-30 minutes. This time is perfect for a short drive to school or work! If you are like me, you listen to many episodes on long car rides back home. What caught my attention to Rachel's podcast is her podcast image. Her shirt says, "I'm the boss," which caught my eye, and I saw some of her humor right away.

I picked to listen to the podcast called "20k New Followers! How to Grow on Instagram" in 2021. She is a marketing expert and a queen in social media! She is advising on how to grow those followers and her journey through growing 20,000 followers in 2 months!! Rachel is a hard worker that gives you the best advice that is not simple but will be worth it in the end.

1 - Post More Often

Rachel says we need to be posting 3-5 times per day on your grid for growth. The post does not include stories; it means your actual post. Rachels says that Instagram is not in chronological order, which means that if you post on your fed, your followers will not see the posts five times in a row. She talks with Cat and Brock about Instagram growth and helps each other out. Talking with other people is the best way to learn new things and figure out what is working and what is not. I can never say this enough, working as a team creates a better outcome.

TIP - when content goes viral, there will always be someone disagreeing with your post. Rachel says that this is a reality. She does not look at the comments

when content goes viral.

2 - Creating Reels

Rachel creates all her reels on TikTok. They use SaveTok to save the video without the TikTok watermark and post it onto Instagram. You can repurpose your TikToks and use them on Instagram too! Out of the 3-5 posts per day, 2-5 are reels. They must be published to your feed; otherwise, you only have 24 hours for consumers to reach it.

3 - Using 30 Hashtags On Instagram Posts

Every hashtag is an opportunity to be discovered, so why not use 30? If you are trying to grow, this is huge. There is a chance to gain more followers by getting recognized more, but I do not know if I would do 30 hashtags each time.

4 - Professional Photos Are NOT A Must

Rachel has one professional photo on her Instagram account. She is trying to show that her life is not perfect, and she is just like everyone else. We have all seen the ideal accounts, and of course, we want to be like them since they have professional photos taken. Rachel's view is that her Instagram is her real-life because it resonates with people.

5 - Creating Content For The Viewers

Rachel creates more content about her viewers than herself. Some examples would be quotes like her own quotes, original quotes, quotes from other people, but you must always give attribution. Make sure you can share what others want to hear about and help them out!

6 - Skip Loops, Giveaways, and Shoutouts

People are still saying Loops, Giveaways, Shoutouts work. They can lead to a surge of immediate followers, but you could lose those followers after. Not overusing them can save you thousands of dollars too. Occasionally, you can use these tactics, but it is not a way to grow your followers. When I see loops, giveaways, and shoutouts, I believe that account is generous and cares about its followers. Small increments are the best way to use loops, giveaways, or shoutouts if your account desires.

7 - Captions Length Do Not Matter

When it comes to captions, the length does not matter. It can be any length you want but make sure you are putting attention-based message. It should feel like a conversation with friends. Make sure to comment with the people that respond to your caption, even if your Instagram is small or large.

The run down I provided you of Rachel's podcast can help us out in many ways. I did not know that we should skip the loops, giveaways, and shouts or that professional photos do not have to be used. Learning new tips and tricks on how to grow a platform will help us out in the long run. Below is Rachels's link on How to Grow on Instagram!
