The quickest way to create a Facebook ad is to ‘Boost’ a post on your business page. The boost button shows up underneath a post on your business page, but it has limited options. We walk you through how to create an ad using Facebook Ads Manager. There are three main sections when creating a Facebook ad: campaign, ad set, and ad.
1. Set Up the Campaign
The first step is to log into Facebook Ads Manager. Select the Campaigns tab. Click ‘Create’ to start a new Facebook ad campaign. You will need to select a marketing objective out of the 11 that Facebook offers.
Awareness: Increase awareness of your business or product
Reach: Show your ad to as many people as possible
Traffic: Drive traffic to your website or app
Engagement: Drive engagement with your post including likes, comments, and shares
App installs: Send people where they can download your app
Video views: Drive views of your video
Lead generation: Collect information from people interested in your business
Messages: Drive people to message you via Facebook Messenger
Conversions: Encourage people to take a specific action on your website such as subscribing or purchasing
Catalog sales: Ads will showcase your products that are in your product catalog
Store traffic: Use this to encourage customers to visit your company’s physical location
After you select your objective, you may have to select additional information to specify your objective. For example, if you chose the engagement objective, Ads Manager will then ask you to choose engagement type such as Post engagement, Page likes, or Event responses. Then you can name your campaign, ad set, and ad. Campaigns can have multiple ad sets, and ad sets can have multiple ads. However, you will need to create one ad set and one ad to start.
2. Create An Ad Set
Next, at the ad set level, you can choose your budget. You can select a daily budget or lifetime spend budget. Then select your start and end dates. Under the audience section, you can select your target audience. If you have already created your audience, then select ‘Use saved audience’. Otherwise, create a new audience. You can choose demographic information such as location, age, gender, and language. Facebook has generated lists of people who have similar interests such as horseback riding, hairstyles, or oil painting. Select the most appropriate interests related to your target market.
Then choose automatic placements or manual placements. Placements are where on Meta’s platforms ads are shown. For example, if you don’t want your ads to show on Instagram, you can exclude them by using manual placements. Then you can set up your bidding strategy and bidding type which varies based on the objective that you selected.
3. Set Up the Ad
Next, set up the ad. First, you can select the Facebook page and Instagram account that you want your ad linked to. Then choose the format such as single image, video, carousel, or collection. Then you can enter the text and images or video for your ads. For more information about types of ads visit this blog.
Creating your first Facebook ad can be overwhelming, but with time and practice, you will be creating ads like a professional.
