Let’s Imagine. You are in your last year of college, majoring in marketing. You are beginning to look at new career paths. You have applied for your dream job, which is doing social media marketing for a corporation in the city. Stress is starting to set in, as you realize you have two weeks to grow your social media pages. The corporation tasked you with the challenge of doubling your followers in two weeks. This is to prove to them that you have the drive and confidence for this position. While scrolling through your Instagram, over and over you see these companies with eye-catching, perfect captions, and engaging posts. These companies know just how to meet audiences’ standards. While you on the other hand, have spent 30 minutes trying to come up with a caption. All that is running through your mind is “How are these companies putting out such perfect content and engaging the audience so easily?” The answer to that question is Artificial Intelligence.
AI is taking over social media. The standards are at an all-time high, it is no longer about posting a funny meme or using crazy hashtags. Those are things of the past, the future is AI. No, that is wrong, right now is AI. It is important to stay up-to-date with technology, as it is changing every day. AI has, and will continue to dominate the marketing industry, social media marketing especially. First, I am going to talk about what AI in social media marketing is. Next, we are going to talk about the benefits of AI in marketing. We will then discuss the importance of understanding AI. Lastly, we are going to talk about how to use AI in social media marketing.
AI in Marketing
AI is something that is becoming big in social media. Companies that use AI are able to save both time and resources, while being able to use that energy on other things. According to Copy Blogger, “AI content marketing is a strategy that leverages artificial intelligence (a combination of machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing) to execute and automate tasks related to creating, editing, and distributing content, such as blog posts, social media posts, and videos, (Stoddart, 2025)." By using AI, companies can create and improve content. They can also use AI to come up with ideas, reply to messages, and do many more things. With that being said we can now discuss the benefits of AI in marketing.
The Benefits of AI in Marketing
AI in social media marketing offers numerous benefits. The first benefit of AI in marketing is that it is a time saver. AI not only can produce content, but will look over and improve content. Commenting, replying, and captioning are all things that AI can do to save time for a company. When for example, Nike posts a new black Friday deal on Instagram, there will be many people that are going to direct message Nike asking questions. Instead of the marketing team having to answer these, AI is able to do so.
Another benefit is that AI can personalize things. Hootsuite Blog writes, “You can take personalization even further with the AI tools built into the advertising platforms at many social networks. Rather than creating a single ad campaign for a target audience, these tools serve dynamic ad content personalized in real-time at the individual user level (Newberry, 2025).” This means that my ad experience may be very different from my best friends. We are the same age, live in the same area, and usually shop for similar things, but we have different hobbies and different styles. Let’s say again that a Nike ad popped up on my Facebook. I am mostly going to see walking shoes, because at my job I walk several miles a day. On the other hand, my friend will most likely see a bag on her ad, because she uses them every day to carry her work essentials. This is an example of how AI can personalize advertising experiences, which is an advantage of AI marketing. Rather than Nike having one consistent ad, there will be different ads for different people based on what they typically browse or buy.
The next benefit I want to talk about is data analytics. AI can find, hold, and use data for many different things. This is a great example of AI’s data usage, according to Sprout Blog, “Mastercard built a digital marketing engine to monitor conversations across social media and identify microtrends before they go mainstream. The technology helps Mastercard target relevant trends by cross-referencing them with specific approved topics. If it’s a good fit for MasterCard, AI will notify the marketing team, and if they want to participate, the brand taps in with pre-made social media posts and targeted ads, (Hedley, 2025).” AI is able to find data quicker than humans. It is beneficial because it can help companies be on trend before the trend gets big. AI’s ability to monitor conversations is important because this is what helps companies learn about customer preferences, reactions, and new things. AI has such a large number of benefits, but I would like to now talk about the importance of understanding AI.
The Importance of Understanding AI
Understanding all the functions of AI and how to use them is crucial. Here are some of Hootsuite Blog’s recommendations for understanding AI, “Trying using the same tool repeatedly so it can learn your style over time, provide content to help with accuracy, specify preferred content formats and structures to maintain consistency (Newberry, 2025).” Let’s talk about these recommendations. You can not just start using AI and expect it to output something perfect. You have to “teach” AI your style over time. Once AI starts to figure out your preferences, it will adjust to them. Providing AI with blogs or websites that you like will give it something to go off of, rather than just generating something random. This will give AI examples of what type of content you would like it to produce. Providing multiple sources will be good, that way AI can use creativity to combine things and really make it personal to that company. When you provide AI with preferred formats and structures, it will become more consistent with what you have in mind. It will also learn these formats and continue to use them in the future. Understanding AI will also help you learn how to proactively use it in marketing.
How to Use AI in Marketing
How can you use AI in social media marketing? Content creation is one of the biggest and most well-known things that AI does in marketing. AI is able to produce/ improve videos, images, and captions. You can also use AI to generate ideas for your content. This saves the marketing team from spending hours brainstorming and is another example of how AI marketing benefits companies. Copy Blogger gives an example of something you could send to AI to get it to generate ideas. Here is the example: “generate a list of 10 unique ideas for a scheduling software company. Each topic should be something that a prospective customer might research (Stoddart, 2025).” You can customize it however you want to fit what you are looking for. If you do not like the list of ideas given to you, you can ask AI to make it more specific to one thing. For example, if I ask AI to give me a list of 3 good books to read, and it sends me Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, and The Lord of the Rings, I will not be happy with these suggestions. My next step would be either being more genre-specific, providing examples, or asking for more suggestions. I would then tell AI that I want to read romance books, this will get me closer to what I am looking for. If I want something very specific, I can tell AI “I loved the Bridgerton book series, can you give me suggestions that will be similar to this?”

I will then receive suggestions that will be more so what I am looking for. You may have absolutely no idea what genre you want to read, so ask AI for a more extensive list of books so that you can explore different options. Another way to use AI in social media marketing is to let it find your target audience. AI is able to tell who is engaging with content, meaning it can adjust to that audience and find ways to draw in a larger audience.
Conclusion
