The key to landing an excellent job in social media marketing is to build up your experience. From gaining certifications to completing internships, we have you covered with all of the information that you need to know.
Below we have covered four different ways that you can start building your expertise as a social media marketer.
1. Get Your Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited University
An investment in your education will push you further in your career journey. By completing your bachelor's, not only will you show employers that you have credibility in social media but also will have more knowledge than those who don't have their degree. You will learn how to engage customers, build brand loyalty, and how to drive conversions for a business. Along with your concentration in social media, you will also have the opportunity to learn the business core.
2. Complete the Free Certification Courses Online
Take a look at that heading again. Yes, it does say free. The great thing about the internet is that there are many resources out there offering free social media certification courses. A popular marketing suite is HubSpot Academy, which offers hundreds of courses covering social media, sales, and digital marketing. Other platforms you can check out is Hootsuite Academy, Meta Courses, or Google Career Certificates.
3. Apply for Internships on LinkedIn
Internships give you the role to work in real-time on a business's projects. It is a great way to show employers that you not only have the knowledge but also have credible experiences. Internships are important as they allow you to apply your classroom knowledge in professional environments. Moreover, the networking and connections you will make are priceless.
4. Offer to Manage a Small Business or Organization's Social Media
Say that you are struggling to find an internship. Another great avenue is to look for businesses in your area who could use help with their social media. If you are in college, it could be as simple as requesting to run the organization's social media. Note that most of the time this type of role will be unpaid, but it is still a great way to get your foot in the door in social media marketing.
