Don’t Sleep on TikTok Marketing

Updated: May 12, 2021

TikTok is a mobile platform where users can create and watch short videos for entertainment, education, and just so happens to be a great platform for you to advertise your business! Some of the most popular videos are reviews from influencers and creators trying products from businesses! TikTok users skyrocketed during the pandemic while people were spending more time at home and hasn’t slowed down since. You may be thinking “wow that’s great- but how can that help me and my business?” A popular podcast called Social Media Marketing with Michael Stelzner goes over just how you can use TikTok with popular TikTok coach Wave Wyld and we have the highlights here for you!

What makes TikTok so unique and special?

Exposure

It’s the Organic Reach. This means anyone has the potential to go viral! The algorithm doesn’t necessarily depend on how many followers you already have or how many likes you get prior- you can go viral simply by posting something people like. Visibility is not only exciting but essential for a business’s success. Facebook and Instagram’s algorithms aren’t designed to give you exposure and it can be extremely difficult to receive it if you don’t already have a large following.

Trends

Like all social media, TikTok goes through trends. Trends can be centered around music used in the app, dances people are doing, products people are reviewing and much more! It can be difficult to harness every trend that crosses the internet, but you can leverage those trends that relate to your business! People enjoy content that feels genuine and learning from others before they go through with a purchase or trying on their own. Think about the story of Nathan Apodaca, a middle-aged man who was riding along on his skateboard sipping Ocean Spray listening to Fleetwood Mac. He had not only Ocean Spray reach out and buy him a new truck, but he has also received enough money to put a down payment on a house. The platform is amazing for everyone in the community to show support to others.

TikTok sensation Addison Rae gained popularity and fame from her lip sync/dance videos to trending music. She now has grown to partner with many major brands like American Eagle!

Shelf Life

Unlike a typical Instagram or Twitter post with a very limited shelf life, TikTok publicly stated videos can receive engagement and following for up to 90 days. This is an extremely long time compared to all other social media platforms. If you are unfamiliar with TikTok, the FYP (for you page) is where viewers scroll through videos and your video will continue to pop up for those interested in your type of content!

Niches

It is a myth that only young people use TikTok. The pandemic was responsible for not only young viewers getting into TikTok but people of all ages. According to Wave Wyld, over 80 million US users on TikTok. Many communities are on TikTok that you may not necessarily see because your TikTok is curated to what YOU like to see- and it’s the same for everyone else. Almost every niche or category you can think of has a community of people interested.

Authenticity

TikTok creators are known for having fun, being real and being authentic. Viewers are drawn to creators that show a different side of them and give them a “behind the scenes” feeling. That being said, you have to combine this with trends. When a trend becomes popular on TikTok, users will receive content that is involved in this trend. People are going to buy when they know, like and trust you. That being said, have fun! Nobody is going to believe you if you aren’t enjoying what you’re doing or using.

How do I take this information and do it myself?

The best trends are those that can be applied to your niche. The same trend has been adopted by fitness content creators, plastic surgeons, skincare experts, artists and more, even though none of those niches are the same. It’s about adapting it to your brand and making it feel authentic and genuine! A popular trend on TikTok is using a song while lip syncing/dancing and putting your own twist on something many people are doing. They key is jumping on a trend early to gain exposure. Ironically, there are many videos out there that also show you how to do this. So, what are you waiting for? Download TikTok and get started!
