Creating content specifically for Instagram is a very common practice, but is creating content for Instagram and using it to cross-post on other platforms, okay to do? Some people believe it's best to create new content tailored for each specific site, but it's really not uncommon to use your Instagram content and post it in other places as well.

Facebook

The most obvious place to do this is on Facebook. Instagram is owned by Facebook and therefore it's very easy to share things to Facebook directly from your original Instagram post. It is not usually a great practice to cross-post everything you share on Instagram to Facebook but on occasion, it's a great tool and a time saver.

Twitter

Twitter has recently made cross-posting from Instagram much easier also. You can now share your Instagram photos directly to Twitter so you can increase your following on both Instagram and Twitter. With that, you can also share your tweets directly to your Instagram story now as well.

Time-Saving Tool

Overall, cross-posting is not necessarily what you should do with every single post but it's perfectly acceptable to do it on occasion. It makes it overall easier to keep active on social media without the need to make different content for each and every platform you share on. It is important to stay active on social media to keep your followers engaged, as audiences tend to appreciate a frequent flow of content to interact with.

Exposure

Another great benefit is the exposure you will get from cross-posting. Ensuring that the content you create will have the chance to be seen by followers on all of your social media instead of just one will get you more views and interactions without much effort.

Drawbacks

The only major drawback you face with cross-posting is that there are different audiences on different sites. You may be dealing with more 20-30-year-old women on Instagram, 40-50-year-old men on Facebook, and teenagers on TikTok. You have to have a more broad post so as to not offend someone of an audience you don't typically reach with one type of post, or face your post being ignored or cause followers to unsubscribe.

In conclusion, as long as you are careful and tedious, cross-posting can be a real game-changer. It can save you hours on time, has the potential to reach a bigger audience, and has greater odds of growing the following you already do have.
