You have a degree in marketing, now what?
You have either just graduated or are about to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. That’s amazing! Except for the fact that you aren’t quite sure what to do with it…you know you love the digital marketing side of the industry and would be willing to settle for a mainstream corporate marketing job, but you want to shoot for the stars. Starting out smaller for your first job out of college might not be a bad idea, as you can gather some experience and build your professional network in the process. However, you want to end up in the big leagues, working in a position where you can earn some serious cash. 1 - Director of Digital Marketing

The person who oversees all of the digital marketing operations and leads a team of marketers to implement the digital marketing strategy is the director of digital marketing. DeBara states that this position takes a lengthy background in digital marketing to be able to obtain this role, which is why these people usually have a plethora of skills that they have developed over the years, and they are constantly staying up to date on the latest happenings in the industry. Because so much experience is usually needed, this is not an entry-level job you would apply for right after graduation. However, this is a good position to work towards if you have big dreams and goals.
2 - Content Marketing Director
Average Salary - $95,854
Content marketing directors oversee everything having to do with you guessed it, content! This encompasses content creation, strategy, development, and marketing, and also managing the other content creators according to deBara. The good news about this position is that it usually only requires a bachelor’s degree, sometimes higher depending on the company, but this person starts out as a content creator, editor, or designer and then moves up the chain of command as they gain experience. So, yes, it does still require experience, but we are looking at end goal jobs here people! The job of your dreams!
3 - Director of Email Marketing

Just when you thought email marketing was “dead,” would you look at that average salary? The director of email marketing implements email marketing strategies and manages both an email crafting team and an analytics team states deBara. These directors usually have some experience in multiple areas of digital marketing from design to analytics and 7 to 10 years of experience. That’s not saying you wouldn’t be able to apply for this position with only five years of experience, but those just remember that some company’s value higher experience over other assets. Emails still increase brand awareness and drive traffic and engagement, so this position could be available for years to come.
Think about it
If you are a recent graduate or about to graduate, you have plenty of time to think about what your dream job would be. If you are very money-driven, these are just a few examples of positions you can strive for. Come on, who would have thought that the director of email marketing would be making over $100,000? That seems insane until you look at all of the talent and experience it takes to do any of these jobs. The entry-level position that you take after graduation will most likely not be the same position that you retire in, remember that. If you have big dreams and goals, don’t be afraid to work hard and shoot for the stars.
